Abstract
This paper presents an investigation of transient phenomena of a Salient Poles Synchronous Machine connected to an infinite bus, focusing on the currents of the damper bars, the electromagnetic torque oscillation and the stator currents, during two kinds of short-circuits: (a) an inter-turn in the stator of the synchronous machine between two conductors of different phases and (b) between two conductors of the same phase. The use of FEM enables the calculation of the machine´s variables, the waveforms of the damper currents and the power angle´s oscillations more easily and more precisely than other simulation methods.
