Abstract :
Since 1990s, given the context of global integration in international investment and trades, MNCs have come to play one of the leading roles in foreign direct investment (FDI) globally. Establishing enormous subsidiaries abroad by means of FDI, MNCs have greatly enhanced their competitiveness in the international stage and also boosted FDI beneficial countries´ economic development. Currently, some new trends have given rise to FDI of MNCs, which are characterized as trends of more investments in cross country takeover, more investments in service industry and much closer relationship between trades and investments. With the Chinese rapid economic development under economic globalization, FDI from MNCs will undoubtedly play a very critical part in boosting Chinese economic development. Based on the unavoidable importance of MNCs´ FDI and by analyzing their new trends in making direct investment, this paper studies on what the strategic orientations should be in Sichuan province, one of the largest provinces in the western regions of China and what the strategies of attracting MNCs´ FDI should be adopted by Sichuan local government in terms of both qualitative and quantitative analysis in order to boost leap forward economic development in Sichuan province, China.
