Abstract :
Optimal admission control is a network management and control problem. Finding an optimal solution is computation prohibitive in broadband networks. Optimal admission control becomes feasible in practical applications only if optimal admission policies exhibit certain policy structures so that the search for optimality is constrained. The search for the optimal structure is studied for broadband network with calls of negotiable bandwidth demands, i.e., flexible calls. The existence of a threshold structure for networks serving traffic mixture of fixed and flexible calls, thereby making optimal control feasible in broadband networks, is proved
