  • Abstract
    Reliability is important to how a fiber optic system performs, but how is it measured and how does that affect fiber optic system design? Complex avionics today typically have internal clocks that measure operational times. This data cannot be read at the squadron level and must be obtained by the intermediate or depot level repair facilities. Operational time-to-failure would be valuable information to have, but is unavailable through the military aircraft maintenance data system
