Abstract
This paper reviews advances in the development of WDM LAN standards. Focusing on standards for aerospace applications, it provides a synopsis of the scope, charter and recent activities of the WDM LAN working group of the Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE), in the SAE´s Fiber Optics and Applied Photonics committee. In addition, the paper describes key liaisons with complementary optical networking standards working groups within and outside the SAE and highlights associated WDM technology and standardization challenges
