Abstract
A low-cost multicast network, which is called the chaining flip network, for broadband integrated services digital network (ISDN) is proposed. The chaining flip network employs only a log2N -stage flip network. The multicast routing algorithm is self-routing with constant latency. Simulations are made to evaluate the performance of the chaining flip network. They show that the throughput of the chaining flip network is better than the banyan equivalents, and worse than the nonblocking networks. The hardware complexity of the chaining flip network is less than that of nonblocking multicast networks. Thus, the chaining flip network is suitable for the large network implementation
