Abstract :
Currently available standard acrylate coated fibers have a maximum operating temperature range of +85degC. However, recently several fiber manufacturers have introduced new types of high temperature acrylate coated fiber with temperature handling up to +150degC for long term and +200degC for short term. These fibers are marketed as HTA (high temperature acrylate) fibers, but rarely does the qualification testing include jacketed, cabled fiber constructions. This paper describes the work being done to characterize the thermal stability and functionality of a HTA fiber in a cable construction where all base materials (except the fiber) are rated for constant use at +260degC
