Abstract
A multiuser detector for code division multiple access (CDMA) systems is introduced. The detector is based on a state-space description of the multiuser channel and can be viewed as a nonlinear Kalman filter. The algorithm recursively computes approximations of probability distributions. Working with probability distributions allows the easy extraction of soft decision information from the detector. Working with approximations allows limiting the computational complexity of the detector. A sketchy derivation of the algorithm, the performance, and the enormous flexibility inherent to the detector are discussed briefly
