Abstract :
We present a multi-mode dynamic traffic assignment model to evaluate the benefits and impacts of bus lane. Firstly, a multi-mode dynamic network model is proposed to model the interactions of cars and buses under two conditions: with and without bus lanes. We present an integrated variational inequality formulation to capture the travelerspsila mode, path and departure time choices. Then, a heuristic algorithm is presented to solve the variational inequality problem. Finally, the benefits and impacts of bus lane are analyzed by numerical examples in a simple network. The results show the benefits of bus lanes are relative to the demand levels. The higher the demand levels are, the more benefits setting up bus lanes can obtain.
