Abstract :
In this paper, we analyze the radiation characteristics of several two-element arrays for their potential use in wideband communications. Given a set of specifications we considered three broad band antennas to satisfy them. The three antennas are: bow-tie, bicone, and ellipsoid. The radiation requirements can only be satisfied by array configurations. Due to the limitation in the overall physical dimension of the antenna, only two-element arrays were considered. The optimum separation distance between the elements was found to be 0.9 lambda, The design based on the ellipsoidal element satisfies the characteristics most closely. It exhibits much better reflection coefficient than the stated minimum of -7.5 dB. However, it is also the longest array; it overshoots the desired length of 8 in by 1.6 in.
