Abstract :
Under the guidance of the Department of Defense (DOD), the Joint Directions of Laboratories (JDL) has created a Sensor Fusion Subpanel (DFS) which has developed data fusion architectures. A brief review on the functional elements essential to the JDL data fusion architectures and other fusion architectures that have been used in other non-military applications is given. The primary goal is to identify some important issues in sensor fusion that create confusion in both the research and the applications communities, and to provide an application guideline to practicing engineers
