Abstract :
Non-matched filter communication channel assessment is perhaps the most challenging approach that can be taken. The task is even more challenging when considering the coexistence of narrowband and ultra wideband (UWB) signals. This work examines channelized receiver techniques as one alternative for detecting UWB signals. Detection results obtained with temporal-temporal and spectral-spectral data are compared with best case, matched filter performance and radiometric detection. Given UWB signals are somewhat "featureless" in the spectral domain, detection results based on temporal-temporal processing proved most promising, with some cases providing 2.5 dB improvement relative to radiometric detection.
