Abstract :
Four major handoff initiation methods (maximum power handoff (MPH), absolute received power with threshold (TB), relative received power with threshold (RTB) and HYS) is introduced and by simulation in a ten-cell structure, they are compared based on performance metrics (e.g. HO, OUT, Ping-Pong and Delay). By employing handoff execution phase considerations in order to increase mean number of candidate base-stations, modified versions of algorithms are suggested. In order to improve the handoff initiation phase, optimum combination of hysteresis and threshold based methods are then presented. The new offered algorithm is a generalized combined form of hysteresis and threshold based methods with the consideration of all adequate base-stations
