  • Abstract
In purpose of solving the problems on saving energy, resisting acoustic resonance and enhancing reliability in HID lamp ballasts, this paper addresses a novel centralized HID ballast system with power-bus. The system utilizes a central converter to convert the mains voltage to a particular waveform in power-bus, and then with the power-bus, simplified ballasts can be driven in parallel. According to the different voltages waveforms in power-bus, two centralized ballast systems are proposed: the centralized HID ballast system with DC bus and the centralized HID ballast system with AC bus. Compared with the traditional ballast, the centralized HID ballast system with power-bus is of great advantages such as remarkable energy and materials saving, easy dimming and control, high intelligence and reliability, etc. And besides, there is no acoustic resonance phenomenon in the centralized HID ballast system with AC bus
