Abstract
The long-distance transmission networks evolution towards meshed GMPLS-based automatically switched transport networks offers the opportunity to differentiate the service path signal quality into different class of services (CoS). Moreover differentiating CoS offers significant investment saving chances and it is strongly desirable for network operators. Starting from recently published works, this paper further elaborate on the concept of CoS definition, proposing a general CoS framework based on the quality of protection and out-of-service time concepts. The framework is mapped with suited recovery schemes to be implemented on the ASTN and it is proved on the new Telecom Italia´s GMPLS-based meshed long distance network.
