Abstract :
The brief of the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in Control and Systems Engineering at the University of Sheffield´s is to perform research and development of engine control and monitoring systems. Over recent years work has been investigating and developing the key components to provide a complete approach to remote asset monitoring, from local networks of wireless sensors gathering information in harsh environments, to data transfer using telecoms, to intensive data analysis using grid computing coupled with sophisticated decision support systems based on CBR. This paper gives an overview of work within the centre on the practical development and testing of wireless sensor technology for test bed engines and long-term asset management.
