Abstract
It is suggested that fiber in the loop provides an excellent high-speed digital transmission path for HDTV (high-definition television) and other information services, and offers tremendous potential for synergy between telephone and CATV (cable television) companies. It is concluded that an automatic, intelligent, fiber-based network will easily support enhanced services such as HDTV
