Abstract :
The paper deals with simulation and analysis of both steady state and dynamic performance characteristics of a synchronous motor with surface mounted permanent magnets. For this purpose, the machine parameters are determined as exact as possible. Different methods, including classical two-axes theory, finite element method (FEM) and simulation method are applied. The complex modelling of the motor, in order to obtain the most convenient models for application of the proposed methods, is carried out. The results of analytical and numerical calculations, as well as the simulations, are compared with the experimentally obtained ones; they show a very good agreement. On the basis of the analysis of the results, each of the methods is evaluated
