Abstract :
Position error signal (PES) plays a crucial role in hard disk drives by providing the position information of the read head to the servo controller. In this paper, we examine the performance of PES from different servo patterns for high density perpendicular recording system using microtrack simulation. The results reveal certain impacts of perpendicular recording on servo pattern design and provide references on PES signal generation and decoding method design for future hard disk drives (HDD) based on perpendicular recording technology.
