Abstract
A small cone-shaped dielectric resonator (DR) fed by a quarter-wave-length monopole has been investigated. The combination between the two resonant frequencies of the monopole and the DR results in an enhanced bandwidth of 3.6:1 ratio with an omni-directional pattern over the entire band. S11 <; -10 dB occurs over 3-10.8 GHz has been experimentally demonstrated, indicating over 113% fractional bandwidth around the centre frequency of the band. This antenna which is compact in size suits for ultra wideband communications applications.
