Abstract :
The author reports the opinions of industry leaders concerning VSAT (very small aperture terminal) marketing issues and future potential. The general conclusion is that the VSAT marketplace is a component of a larger data communications marketplace that may generate revenues of up to $10 billion annually by 1992. Fully half of this marketplace is addressable by satellite. However, a number of marketing issues must be resolved if the industry is to realize its fully economic potential; these include a need for solution-oriented, rather than technology-oriented market strategies, standardization of equipment, and creation of trust in satellite service quality
