  • Abstract
Wireless sensors networks (WSN) are generally deployed randomly in harsh and inaccessible areas; this type of deployment creates redundancy in the network. However, covering the same area will increase the reporting of redundant data, which will waste more energy. Thus, it is crucial to provide mechanisms that eliminate redundant sensors while maintaining the coverage of the area of interest. These sensors can be exploited through the scheduling activities or be redeployed in order to repair appearing holes in the network and also to restore connectivity. In this context, we have proposed the RND (Redundant Node Detection) method that resolves the redundancy detection problem. In RND, sensors determine their redundancy based on a novel criterion, it uses simple angular calculations while preserving the network coverage. Simulations show that RND achieves good performances when compared to existing methods.
