Abstract :
Summary form only given. The microstrip antenna was conceived in the mists of the early cold war years and slowly but surely became a revolutionary technology the spawned a whole generation of research and researchers. But despite its appealing claims for low profile and low cost, there were battles won and battles lost, as the potential and limitations became clear. This dinner lecture will look at the antennas, the applications and the people in this fascinating story, which still unfolds as the microstrip antenna continues to influence designers to this day.
