Abstract :
In this work, the main problems concerning the design and implementation of control systems for discrete event processes are considered. A great emphasis is given to Petri net models. A particular care is paid to clarify the meaning of different Petri net-based models and their possible uses in the field of control design, i.e., the particular classes of control problem they intend to solve. Two basic approaches to control systems design for discrete event processes are discussed, one based on the open loop model (system theory approach) and the other one on a closed loop model of the controlled system
