Abstract :
In this paper a STATCOM using fuzzy logic controller to compensate reactive power in distribution networks is developed. The advantage of fuzzy control is that it is based on a linguistic description and does not require a mathematical model of the system. The performance of the fuzzy logic controller is compared with a conventional PI controller and results are presented under steady state and transient condition. The plusmn3MVAR STATCOM is connected to the 20 kV B2 bus through a 20 kV/2 kV Wye/Delta transformer. On this 20 MVA inductive network, the plusmn3MVAR STATCOM can correct voltage dip of plusmn12%. The secondly voltage is synthesized by a pulse width modulation inverter (PWM) using a 2.5 kHz chopping frequency
