Abstract
Internet is a complex network with the characteristic of self-organization criticality, and the evolvement of network will inevitably lead to a critical state, which makes the probability of system happening cascading failures increase significantly. This paper introduces the characteristics of dynamics and topology of Internet, analyzes the reasons of cascading failures occurred in details, discusses the potential causes of the characteristic of self-organization and then puts forward a simple fault propagation model called ICFM (Internet Cascading Failures Model). Simulation results show that the Internet does have the characteristic of self-organization criticality and the model can contribute a lot to the detection and control of cascading failures of Internet.
