Abstract :
There is an urgent need to continue the research in balanced access and data cables crosstalk and screening performance. Digital transmission and equipment design have made very high bit rates possible over copper pairs. Also the capacity of old existing cables have increased considerably because of the introduction of very advanced adaptive transmission techniques. When the crosstalk is under control, considerably reduced and compensated a limiting factor can be the immunity against external disturbances. An inexpensive and effective way to improve the immunity of cables is to provide the cable with a metallic overall screen and to reduce the size of the common mode earth loops in the installations
