Abstract
In this paper we show that a large number of 3D forward scattering problems can be efficiently solved by means of simply series expansions. Theoretical conditions assuring the applicability of the traditional Born series and the one arising from the Contrast Source - Extended Born model are derived discussed. Practical tools to foresee their convergence are also provided. Then, in order to enlarge the range of problems which can be solved exploiting series expansions, a new hybrid series is proposed. Numerical examples are given to asses effectiveness and simplicity of the proposed tools.
