Abstract
The author describes the present status and future prospects of the application of power electronics to power systems effectiveness in Japan. Various applications of power electronics to power systems are considered, including interconnection between 50/60 Hz systems, DC transmissions, static VAR compensators, pumping-up generator/motor stations, and variable-speed drives of cooling apparatus of transformers
