Abstract
The goal of this paper is to demonstrate capabilities of passive microwave detection of ocean internal waves. The topic is based on a history of ocean measurements conducted from 1981 to 2001 in which the author was involved. Experiences show that the surface manifestations of internal waves - microwave radiometric signatures (MSIW) are registered in the form of quasi-periodic variations of emissivity, correlated with internal wave periods. The most impressive examples of 1-D and 2-D MSIW are presented. New developments concerning passive microwave imagery and numerical modeling are reported.
