Abstract :
A novel low power consumption and low phase noise CMOS cross-coupled LC-tank voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) is presented. Added negative transconductance technique is used in the proposed VCO in order to improve the phase noise of the circuit by increasing the quality factor of the tank. Furthermore, common mode double-pseudo-resistance utilized in the proposed circuit helps to achieve low power consumption without decrease the phase noise. Simulation results are performed by Advanced Design System (ADS) in TSMC 0.18 μm CMOS process and show high performance of the proposed circuit. The tuning range of the circuit is from 2.28 to 2.59 GHz that can be obtained by the tuning voltage of 0 to 1.5 V. The phase noise achieves to -103.6 and -125.5 dBc/Hz at 100 KHz and 1 MHz offset frequency from the carrier, while the VCO consumes 1.9 mW at 1.5 V supply voltage.
