Abstract :
A high-speed, highly programmable signal processor module using state-of-the-art technology has been developed for use in a wide variety of embedded system applications. Its small, modular size allows it to be used in a wide spectrum of military applications including airborne, shipboard, and ground-based applications involving a variety of sensors including sonar, radar, electrooptical imaging, and communications. This signal processor, called the VLSI Signal Processor of VSP, is partitioned into three functional elements that provide external interfacing, program execution and control, and arithmetic processing, respectively. The VSP provides applications with the capability of processing data in several data formats, including 16-bit fixed point arithmetic, 32-bit fixed point arithmetic, and full 32-bit IEEE floating point arithmetic. The VSP supports programmability at two levels, the microcode level and the macro level
