Abstract :
Wavelet based image compression schemes are under consideration for a future Mars lander. JPEG2000 is favored but the lack of the lander´s computing power limits its application. Therefore, schemes to simplify the entropy coding of JPEG2000 are under examination. Applying such schemes will reduce consumption of computing power, but may also degrade the quality of the reconstructed image.
