Abstract :
The authors analyze communication security threats in the light of the open systems interconnection (OSI) model and establish certain security goals to be met. A brief look is taken at the implementation of security services in the communications network, and the applicability of a few very important international security standards to the African developing world are discussed. Special attention is paid to the security addendum to the OSI model, financial institution standards, the CCITT electronic mail security standards, and smart cards
