Abstract :
The increasing use of distributed electronic networks to enhance C3I capability raises the issue of vulnerability to network attack and its impact on C3I. This paper reports preliminary work in the modelling and simulation of these C3I networks to analyse their vulnerability to different forms of attack. A discrete event model is used to simulate the complex traffic flow across the network. Standard measures of network performance are used, such as capacity, throughput, loss probability and delay, as well as the impact on C3I systems themselves. The vulnerability of the C3I system is expressed in terms of the degradations in network and C3I performance when exposed to different attack scenarios resulting in loss of system components
