Abstract
In H.264/AVC video coding standard, intra prediction make use of the pixel around to predict current marcoblock(MB) to reduce the space redundancy. It adopts Rate Distortion Optimization (RDO) technique to compute the cost of every mode for each MB to improve the encoding effective but this increases computational complexity. In order to overcome this shortcoming, this paper gives an adaptive mode decision algorithm for H.264/AVC intra prediction according to the textural features and complexity of pictures. Experimental results show that the computation time of the propose method is decreased to about 57% while maintaining similar PSNR and bit rate performance of H.264 intra encoding.
