Abstract :
Screen printing technology for LaB/sub 6/ cathodes applicable to DC plasma display panels (PDPs) has been developed and actually used for 640*400 displays. While LaB/sub 6/ has a sufficient resistance to sputtering, the authors found that it is liable to develop a localizing phenomenon in which negative glow unevenly exists in part of a pixel. They confirmed that introduction of Hg is effective in eliminating this localization of glow. However, this will prevent full use of the advantages of LaB/sub 6/. In the case where Hg is not introduced, a clean-up phenomenon by LaB/sub 6/ itself is observed in a relatively short time, with a rise in firing voltage.<>
