Abstract :
A simple and novel circular patch loaded printed monopole antenna fed by a coaxial probe is proposed for operating in the PCS band. The antenna comprises a printed monopole antenna, which is connected to the circular patch, and two additional flat strips at each side. After choosing the height of the printed monopole, the bandwidth and resonant frequency of the proposed antenna are mainly affected by the width of the monopole and the spacing between the strips and the monopole. The measured return loss characteristics of the proposed antenna reveal a bandwidth greater than 200 MHz for the criterion of VSWR<2. Even further, the radiation pattern of the proposed LP antenna shows very similar behavior to those of the monopole antenna. A peak antenna gain of about 3 dBi is predicted.
