            Abstract : 
Harmonic generation mechanisms are studied in the ultrafast (22 fs), relativistic regime (I/spl lambda//sup 2//spl sim/10/sup 18/ W/cm/sup 2/). Analysis of the polarization and intensity dependence of the harmonics illustrates different mechanisms of harmonic production for odd and even harmonics.
