Abstract :
We have investigated the origin of quenching of visible photoluminescence in Yb,Er:yttria nanopowders. We show that this phenomenon results from a thermal nonlinearity mediated by non-radiative processes at high temperatures, using the results of luminescence decay measurements together with a simple theoretical model.
