Abstract :
This paper evaluates the performance of Benes (1965) networks under different nonuniform traffic type. Unlike most switching networks in which there is exactly one path from any input port to any output port, in the Benes network there are several alternatives. The Benes topology is used to construct routing network and the copy network of an ATM switching system. Each network uses output buffering at its switch elements. We analyze the performance of the buffered Benes network with nonuniform traffic in the form of hot-spot and community-of-interest. An analytical queueing model is developed for performance evaluation. Results of the performance evaluation on the network throughput and delay are presented
