Abstract :
Recent findings on the relationship between arc and erosion or transfer in a switching contact are summarized with special attention to the role of electrode temperature. In order to apply those findings to design of electric contacts, experimental comparisons of axisymmetric bar contacts and cross bar contacts are carried out for Ag, Pd, and their alloy contacts. Test results of erosion and related matters are shown for different voltages and currents. From a viewpoint of thermal flow, the cross bar type configuration is better. The purpose of the tests is to find the difference in arc erosion between the two types of contact configuration
