Abstract :
The problem of specifying a linear-shift-varying (LSV) filter to recover deterministic slowly-time-varying (STV) signals in the presence of noise or signal interference is reviewed. The LSV filter is specified based on the knowledge of the signal region of support in the time-frequency plane, or equivalently its instantaneous frequency (IF) and time-varying bandwidth (TVBW), which can be easily described using the short-time Fourier transform. A modified and more general LSV filter specification procedure based on the knowledge of the signal TVBW, IF, and rate of change of the IF is proposed. The filters produced by this procedure are shown to have a superior performance.<>
