Abstract :
The dynamic and thermophysical processes of local and overall interactions between a brush and a ring in low-current contacts are investigated, taking into account friction, microarcing, and Joule heating. Using systems of partial different equations describing nonstationary heat and mass transfer and ordinary differential equations for contact element oscillations in tangential and perpendicular directions, a mathematical model is derived. Criteria ensuring minimum wear are determined based on selection of the contact materials, microrelief of friction surface, sliding speed, static load, and other characteristics set by the operating regime and electrical circuit parameters. The results of experimental and practical evaluations of low-current sliding contact elements with improved wear characteristics are given
