Abstract :
Results of an experiment analyzing contact characteristics of some plated contacts with a few common lubricants are reported. Six lubricants were applied to one ground metal and four plated contacts. Results of measurement of frictional and electrical characteristics for Au-, Ag-, Pd-, and Sn-plated and brass contacts are presented. Coefficient of friction and contact resistance were analyzed by means of a simple swing-type friction test apparatus. Results show there are some suitable lubricants for each plated contact. These suitable lubricants were applied on some commercial electromechanical components such as connectors. The results of lubricating component contacts agree with experimental results for the plated specimens
