Abstract :
Remote area power supplies in the form of a hybrid system can be a very effective alternative in that the different components can be complementary. The authors describe a project whose aim was to develop a dedicated microprocessor control system to effectively manipulate a hybrid energy system so that available energy is efficiently utilized while at the same time the life span of battery banks is extended. The system was referred to as a Hybrid Energy System Manager (HESM). The HESM was connected to simulated and real energy sources and loads, and subjected to a series of tests. The results were very gratifying in that it performed as expected
