Abstract
The IEEE 802.11e is an extension of the IEEE 802.11 to provide quality of service (QoS) to applications requiring real time services. However, when the IEEE 802.11e WLANs are used with the multi-rate scheme, they suffer an unfairness problem. In this paper, we propose a scheme called adaptive transmission opportunity (ATXOP) to solve the unfairness problem in the IEEE 802.11e networks adopting the multi-rate scheme. Our simulation results show that the proposed ATXOP scheme provides better fairness.
