Abstract
The authors examine electrical energy use in the context of a developing country with special reference to South Africa. The South African energy using sectors are identified in terms of energy use, and Eskom´s campaign of promoting the effective use of electrical energy in each is briefly described. It is concluded that electricity plays a pivotal role in a nation´s development and that its effective use can help in assuring future prosperity, but that this is only possible with end-user awareness
