  • Abstract
    We review recent advances in all-optical digital processing using nonlinear optical switching gates based on semiconductor optical amplifiers. A range of processing circuits that can achieve high level all-optical functionality are described and we discuss prospects for their use in future ultrafast photonic communication networks
