Abstract :
High speed long haul optical undersea communication systems have experienced unprecedented fast development in the past few years. This paper discusses the techniques developed at Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) Ltd, Greenwich, to accurately measure the gain shape of EDFAs for 8 channel systems, to control the gain shape, and flatten the gain, and then gives some considerations for EDFAs for future wider bandwidth WDM systems
